2009 CAMP INFORMATION

The Tri-State Championship Volleyball Camp is held annually at the end of July at Mediapolis (Iowa) High School, 725 North Northfield, Mediapolis, Iowa..   

This camp is open to any girl who will be in 7th - 12th grade in the fall of 2009.

Where is Mediapolis?

The camp includes morning and afternoon instruction sessions from a featured clinician, a knowledgeable, enthusiastic camp staff, daily skills competitions, a week-long volleyball league, and free camp t-shirt.  The camp fee is $110.00.  It is nonrefundable after July 15, 2009.

Since 1985, John Kessel has been working for the National Governing Body of the sport, USA Volleyball. He has been coaching since 1971 at the collegiate level or above, including Women's U.S. Open titles in 1986 & '87.

Kessel was Team Leader for the 2000 USA Olympic Beach Volleyball Teams in Sydney, which brought home one gold medal, and for the 2004 USA Paralympic Women's Sitting Volleyball Team in Athens, which came home with the bronze medal. He also served as head coach/team leader for the 1999 and 2003 USA Pan Am Games Beach teams, with a silver medal, and 4th and 5th place finishes in the four events.

In 1995, Volleyball Magazine named him one of the 50 most important people in the sport in the past 100 years.

A sought after international lecturer, Kessel has conducted seminars in all 50 states and in over 30 nations. He has received many awards, including the Harry Wilson Distinguished International Service in 2004, the George Fisher Leader in Volleyball in 2006 and in 2007 was named a Sport Ethics Fellow by the Institute for International Sport.

Susan Wick is entering her 6th season as Head Women’s Volleyball Coach at Southeastern Community College.   During this time she has helped turn the program around and coached the team to 70 wins, including 24 last year, the most since 1995.

Wick has coached numerous All-Conference players and three Academic-All Americans, as well as being named Academic Team of the Year for the past three seasons. 

Coach Wick graduated from Iowa Wesleyan College in 2004 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications and English.  While attending IWC Wick was the starting setter for the Tigers where they posted a conference championship and made it to the regional finals. Wick was a first team All-Conference pick; first team All-Region pick and an Academic All-American.  Coach Wick was also the recipient of the Champion of Character Award her Senior Year at IWC 

As a high school senior at New London High School; Coach Wick was the All-Hawkeye player of the year in 2000 and a second-team All-State pick, she was also a 2nd Team All-State pick in basketball and all-conference selection in volleyball, softball and  basketball all four years. 

Wick also competes on an adult USVB Women’s Club Team and USVB Co-Ed Club Teams.

Jill Williams is in her fourth season on the Kirkwood staff.  Coach Williams holds a current overall record of 93-77, and a conference record of 30-9. Her teams have consistently made regional championship appearances and were the regional runners up tor three seasons. She has coached three Academic All-Americans, one being a Distinguished Academic All-American, four First Team All-Region players, six Second Team All-Region players and one regional tournament MVP.

Prior to her arrival at Kirkwood, Williams served six season as assistant volleyball coach at Upper Iowa University, two seasons as assistant women's basketball coach at Quincy University, and three years as head volleyball, girls' basketball and track coach at LaHarpe School District.

Williams, who graduate from Upper Iowa University with a bachelor of science degree in 1993, is a native of Fayette, IA and currently resides in Swisher.
