Bullettes fall at Highland

By Kent Harshbarger

The Mediapolis Bullettes won the opening game at Highland on September 21, 2004, but lost the next three to the Lady Huskies in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division matchup. Mepo pulled out a 25-23 win in the first game, but then fell 15-25, 20-25 and 21-25.

It was a disappointing loss for Mepo head coach Dennis Jandrey. "That is the first time in 19 years we have lost to them. They are a pretty good team this year, but we didn't do the things we need to do to be successful all the time. We stood up and watched on defense. We are very inconsistent and don't make the adjustments we need to make," Jandrey said.

Bethany Weber paced the inconsistent offense with nine kills. She also led the defense with five blocks.
Outside hitters Lydia Ertz and Kami Keller each had six kills in the match. Jesika McLaughlin added five kills from the middle and had two blocks. Emily Kester set for 23 kills in the match.

At the service stripe, Aurey Kramer led the visitors, going 13 of 15 with three aces. Marissa Dideriksen had two aces while serving 11 of 12. As a team, the Bullettes served 74-81 (91%) with five aces.

Defensively, Kramer came up with six digs. Brittny Wagenbach had five and Dideriksen four.

The loss evened the Bullettes' record in division match play at 2-2. Their overall record fell to 13-5.

Mediapolis did sweep both the fresh-soph and junior varsity matches. The fresh-soph won by scores of 21-4 and 21-17, while the junior varsity edged the junior Huskies 21-19, 21-18 and 15-8.

Amanda Darbyshire recorded five aces and Kinsley Skrukrud had four kills to lead the fresh-soph to victory. Monica Holsteen had five kills and Dideriksen four for the junior varsity.
