
McLatchie, Allen, Kester Named All-State2000 Iowa All-State Volleyball Teams - Complete Listing By Matt Levins Eleven area high school volleyball players named to all-state teams. The season has been over for nearly three weeks, but the accolades keep rolling in for area high school volleyball athletes. Eleven area players were named to the all-state teams released Sunday by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association. Mediapolis and New London lead the way with three selections in their respective classes. Mount Pleasant had two selections in Class 3A. Mediapolis rolled to the SEI Superconference North Division championship without dropping a game in seven matches. The Bullettes advanced to the Class 2A regional semifinals before losing to third-ranked Central DeWitt. Senior setter Heather McLatchie, senior middle blocker Erin Allen and sophomore middle blocker Jo Kester each played a major part in Mediapolis' success. McLatchie was a Class 2A second team selection. She averaged 8.37 assists per game. Kester was named to the fourth team, while Allen was a fifth-team selection. Kester averaged 2.87 kills per game, while Allen averaged 2.7 kills and 1.98 blocks. In Class 3A, Mount Pleasant senior outside hitter Jayme Jandrey was named to the fifth team, while sophomore setter Ashlei Jandrey received special mention. They helped Mount Pleasant shatter the school record for wins in a season with 25. The Panthers advanced twithin a win of state before falling to Oskaloosa. Jayme Jandrey, the Southeast Conference Most Valuable Player the last two seasons, averaged 2.9 kills and 3.2 digs while serving 96.5 percent. Ashlei Jandrey averaged 7.66 assists. New London seniors Corina Schropp and Lyndsay Worden played integral roles in helping the Tigers reach the state tournament for the first time. Schropp, a second-team choice in Class 1A as an outside hitter, averaged 4 kills and 3.44 digs. Worden was chosen to the fifth team as a middle blocker. She averaged 3.25 kills and 3.22 digs while serving 94.9 percent. Junior setter Kara Rumelhart received special mention. She averaged 10.2 assists. Wapello senior middle blocker Kiley Gerst and Winfield-Mount Union senior outside hitter Marcy Davis each was named to the Class 1A third team. Gerst averaged 5.53 kills, 2.95 digs and 2.05 blocks while serving 96.5 percent. Davis averaged 4.2 kills and 2.9 digs for the Lady Wolves, who finished with a 14-11 record. Keokuk Cardinal Stritch sophomore middle blocker Jennifer Goetz was named to the Class 1A fourth team. She averaged 4.2 kills, 3.5 digs and 1.6 blocks while serving 96.2 percent with 36 ace serves. She helped the Lions to a 19-10-3 record. Fort Madison Aquinas senior middle blocker Melissa Kramer was chosen to the Class 1A seventh team. She averaged 2.8 kills and 1.8 digs for the Lady Dons, who finished with a 24-4-3 record. |
